The Little Black Dress

HK Leather Jacket (Also love this and this)
Coach Bag (Absolutely adore this one though)
Dolce Vita Lace Wedges (Fall appropriate ones here and here)

It's kind of weird how my fashion has changed since a year ago. Initially, when I started, I was more experimental. I bought various items that were just trendy for one season and didn't last for the newer seasons. I'm starting to love simpler items with attention to detail. And, honestly, I know these items will last for seasons to come.

One item that will last through the ages is the little black dress aka the LBD. The origin of the LBD dates back to the roaring 20s with Coco Chanel and Jean Patou (lesser known) as the originators. It's meant to be long-lasting, versatile and affordable, not to mention the most flattering color on all body types. The simpler the dress, the more timeless it is. It's also made purposely to help you dress up or down an outfit by simply adding a jacket and accessories or in modern days, a leather jacket.

In 1926, Coco Chanel's LBD was published in Vogue magazine and it shortly became a sensation. Women of all different societal economical background were able to wear it. For once, the fashion boundary between the rich and poor plateaued.

Let's take a look at some of the most iconic LBDs in film:

Audrey Hepburn, dress by Givenchy in Breakfast at Tiffany's

Marilyn Monroe in a promotional portrait for Asphalt Jungle

Christina Ricci as Wednesday in The Adams Family

Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman

Natalie Portman in Black Swan

When picking out the perfect LBD, stick to classic shapes with minimal to no texture. It helps you take your dress from office appropriate to a night out with friends. (Some of these hemlines are too short for corporate offices, but nonetheless are timeless.) Here are some of my picks:

Halloween is tomorrow! Any of you have plans? If you're looking for last minute costume ideas and don't want to spend a lot of money, go as either Holly from Breakfast at Tiffany's with a simple black dress and a white pearl necklace or as Wednesday from The Adams Family by layering a mod black dress over a white shirt.

Love,

Maggie S.
